For those who may not be familiar, this past weekend was the 179th Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is the first of a bi-annual conference where the general leadership of the Church can communicate to the global membership. The Church uses satellite transmission, internet transmission, as well as numerous local TV and radio stations to broadcast this great event.

The format of the meetings are pretty simple. There are four main sessions; two on Saturday and two on Sunday. There are also separate sessions for the men of the Church as well as the women. Each session is two hours in length and allow time for the leadership of the Church to speak (each about 20 minutes) and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to perform Hymns. There are also opportunities for Church officials to present relevant information regarding Church membership such as total numbers as well as how many wards, stakes, missions, etc. We also take part in a Church-wide sustaining of the general leaders of the different auxiliaries and organizations as well as the 12 Apostles and First Presidency. We raise our right arms to the square to signify our support and willingness to follow their council and inspiration.

The talks this time around were just incredible! A lot of focus given to the current state of the global economy and how we should be prepared for further challenges. I have a lot of personal feelings toward some of the talks given and will continue to post as my thoughts as personal feelings come together. It’s difficult for me to immediately post my feelings from such a feast of spiritual nourishment.

I will share my personal feelings and testimony. I know Jesus Christ lives! He loves us and knows us and brings us forgiveness. I know that the Prophet Joseph Smith did indeed see the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. I know he was directed and inspired to bring forth once again, Christ’s true religion and organized it as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I also know that Joseph Smith, through Heavenly aid, translated and published The Book of Mormon as another witness that Jesus is The Christ and did, in fact, visit the people on the American continent as mentioned in John 10:16. I know that by following God’s commandments and the words of His Prophets, past and present, we will return to live with Him, forever.
